The Shadows in Perception
This week in the Microdosing Mentorship, we are focusing on a specific kind of shadow work- bringing the light of awareness to our very process of perceiving reality, specifically examining our interpretations.
What are interpretations, anyway?
I’ve been wrestling with my own interpretations and the stories I tell myself long before I truly understood their impact.
In this week’s newsletter, we’ll dive into the process of perception, specifically the interpretations we experience—what they are and how they can become inner blocks, and introduce a practical framework called PAUSE to help you navigate them. We’ll also explore why this work matters, even when your interpretations feel undeniably true.
What are Interpretations?
Interpretations are the meanings we assign to the events and interactions in our lives. They’re the narratives we create based on our perceptions, beliefs, and past experiences.
Our interpretations are essentially our subjective truths—the lens through which we view the world.
When we cling tightly to these interpretations without questioning them, they can solidify into inner blocks that limit our perspective and hold us back from growth.
Anytime you’ve caught yourself reacting strongly to a situation, only to later realize there was more to the story, you’ve experienced the power of interpretations. It’s that moment of deeper self-awareness when you recognize that your initial take might not encompass the whole truth.
Why Do Interpretations Become Inner Blocks?
Everyone interprets experiences; it’s a natural part of how we make sense of the world. Our brains are wired to quickly create narratives to help us navigate complex situations efficiently.
However, these interpretations can become inner blocks when they remain unexamined and rigid, preventing us from seeing alternative perspectives or possibilities.
When we accept our interpretations as the only truth, we might miss out on important insights, opportunities for connection, or paths to healing.
